Our Story

In 2016, a passionate group of theatre lovers in the Comox Valley decided to roll the dice and start a new local theatre company and produce  Guys and Dolls at the Sid Williams Theatre, which opened in March, 2017. And let’s just say, Lady Luck was on our side! The production wasn’t just a success—it set the tone for what this company does best: putting on smart, engaging, and entertaining theatre.

By 2018, we continued to showcase our flare for musical-comedy with Once Upon a Mattress but ventured in the Rock Opera direction in 2019 with the classic and a sold out run of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Then came 2020. Like everyone else in the theatre world, they faced the heartbreak of cancelling our run of Mamma Mia! just as we were about to open. But instead of sitting in the wings, and with the dedication of our board and volunteers, 3LDP got creative. Enter the Summer Series, an outdoor showcase of curated musical theatre themed performances at Filberg Park that brought local public performances back to life again.

With restriction lifts in 2022, we were busting out the fishnets and fun with The Rocky Horror Show. And we returned to the Sid in 2023, with our very first two-show year: Sondheim’s Into the Woods and the quirky comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Our 2024 has been our fullest season yet, with hits at the Sid, our March production of Monty Python’s Spamalot and our October production: the evocative, unforgettable Cabaret.  3LDP had two additional evenings of entertainment: "Broadway After Dark" at the Waverley in Cumberland, an evening of burlesque performance and cabaret style musical numbers. We closed the year with our very first Broadway Holiday Gala & Karaoke Party at the Filberg Centre which featured alumni and guest artist performances and an opportunity for community engagement.

But here’s the real buzz: after years of waiting, we’re finally bringing Mamma Mia to the Sid Williams Theatre in March 2025. Get ready for the music, the dancing, and the sheer joy of ABBA’s greatest hits in a production that promises to be well worth the wait.

What sets Three Legged Dog apart isn’t just our choice of shows . It’s the heart behind the productions. Our company thrives on the energy of its volunteers, the support of its sponsors, and the unwavering belief that theatre matters.

And here’s the best part: we are only  getting started! Three Legged Dog Productions is committed  to keep surprising audiences with shows that make you laugh, think, and maybe inspire you to get creative and involved with what's going onstage and behind the scenes!
